An introduction to professional dog grooming, taught in a real salon by an award-winning groomer.
The Birmingham Dog Grooming Academy Certificated Introduction to Dog Grooming course is designed for those who want to gain essential skills and confidence in grooming. Delivered in our working salon, this course blends theory with practical, hands-on learning so you can work safely and effectively with a variety of breeds and coat types.
Please note: this is an Academy Certificated Course. It does not carry an iPET qualification but provides you with a Birmingham Dog Grooming Academy Certificate to recognise your training.
What You'll Learn
Health and safety in the grooming salon, including hazard awareness, biosecurity, safe equipment use, and legal responsibilities.
Preparing, styling, and finishing a variety of breeds using core grooming techniques. This includes bathing, drying, de-shedding, removing knots and mats, trimming pads and hygiene areas, ear and nail care, and coat preparation.
Completing full grooms on at least three dogs, covering at least two different breeds and coat types.
Safe handling and restraint of dogs with different temperaments throughout the grooming process.
Understanding coat types (short, wool, wire, double, silk and more) and choosing the right tools and techniques for each.
