Abi Maguire

My name is Abi, and I have been passionate about dog grooming for as long as I can remember. As soon as I was old enough to hold a dog brush, I was brushing all of our family and friends’ dogs, and my parents often had to hide the scissors to stop me giving my teddy animals haircuts. My journey into grooming began at the age of 15, when I welcomed my first Standard Poodle, Monti, into my life. Showing him in competitions sparked a lifelong interest in grooming, styling, and canine care.

While studying for my Level 3 Diploma in Animal Management, I completed 150 hours of work experience in a dog grooming salon.

Recognising my potential, the salon offered me a permanent role, and this is where I honed my early skills. Alongside this, I gained a Degree in Equine Science and Business Management, which gave me a strong academic foundation and a professional understanding of running a business.

After graduating, I attended the Prince’s Trust Business Start-Up Programme, where I presented a business plan that was praised as one of the strongest they had seen. I secured funding to open my own grooming salon, which I have now successfully run for over 10 years.
