This qualification is designed for candidates who wish to gain both theory and practical experience in grooming and styling dogs to industry standards. You will build strong foundations in health, safety, handling, coat care, styling and client-centred design so you can confidently work with a variety of breeds and coat types.


Health and safety in a dog grooming environment, including legislation, hazard awareness, biosecurity and promoting high welfare standards.
How to promote the welfare of dogs according to relevant legislation, preventive care, skin and coat biology and recognising signs of ill health.
How to assess and plan grooming styles and maintain equipment to match breed standard styling or client requirements.
Health checking, handling and canine behaviour: anatomy, behaviour traits, safe restraint techniques, recognising stress signals, and adjusting methods for different dogs.
How to prepare, style and finish a selection of dog breeds through various techniques. This includes bathing, drying, removing knots and mats, styling to coat and client needs, and finishing touches. You will groom at least 12 dogs, experiencing a variety of breeds and coat
types.
• Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 174 hours of tutor-led, supervised learning.
• Total Qualification Time (TQT): 238 hours, which includes independent study and
practical work outside classroom time.
• Credits required: 24 credits to achieve the qualification.
