Our Level 3 Award in an Introduction to Dog Grooming (iPET network) is created for those who want to build foundational skills and knowledge in dog grooming. Whether you’re starting out or want to enhance your grooming repertoire, this qualification balances theory with hands-on practice so you can work confidently with dogs of various breeds and coat types.


Health and safety procedures relevant to a grooming salon, including hazard awareness, biosecurity, safe use of equipment and legal requirements.
How to prepare, style and finish a range of dog breeds using basic grooming methods. This includes bathing, drying, de-shedding, removing mats or knots, trimming pads and hygiene areas, cleaning ears, nails and coat preparation.
You will complete grooms on at least 3 dogs, with at least 2 different breeds and coat types.
Techniques for safe handling and restraint of dogs with different temperaments throughout the grooming process.
Understanding different coat types (short, wool, wire, double, silk etc.) and matching the grooming tools and styling techniques accordingly.
• Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 46 hours with tutor supervision and practical lessons.
• Total Qualification Time (TQT): Approximately 55 hours in total, including independent study.

Health and Safety in a Dog Grooming Environment (2 credits)
Prepare, Style and Finish Several Dog Breeds (4 credits)
• Assessment: Through a portfolio or workbook of evidence plus a formal practical assessment. Pass or fail.
